Special Delivery!

I recently subscribed to a produce delivery service, Matt’s Organics.  Every three weeks, they drop off a box of Organic produce on my doorstep.  It’s not a CSA, in which the members subsidize the farmer; in this case, they buy certified Organic fruits and vegetables from Arizona and nearby states.

Each delivery is supposed to include onion, garlic, and 4 baking potatoes (though sweet potatoes can be subbed in), plus 3 fruits, 3 salad vegetables, and 3 cooking vegetables.  I LOVE getting high quality organic produce delivered!!! This week’s haul:

produce delivery 2/15/12

Onion, Garlic, 2 potatoes, 2 sweet potatoes, romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, peppers (red, yellow, and orange), carrots, baby bok choy, sugar snap peas, ginger, avocado, tangelos, bananas, and a pineapple.  Of those foods, I rarely or never buy pineapple, lettuce, avocado, snap peas, and bok choy (baby, adolescent, or adult).  Some of the bananas will have to go into bread – they’re already ripe.  The lettuce and tomatoes will probably just go into salads, and I’m thinking of doing some stir-fries with baby bok choy, snap peas, and… chicken?  Peppers can go into salad or stir fry, or into a roasting pan with the root vegetables.  This is all very lazy, though.  Hmmm….

If you have suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

  1. Let me know what you end up doing with the bok choy…I got it, too, and I didn’t get that big hunk of ginger to go with it. You’re lucky! Those tangelos look amazing! Hope I get them next time, too. Love the pic of all of it together. Yay for Matt’s Organics!!!!

  2. Careful with organics that cross state lines, while there may not be any pesticides many states require irradiation of all produce rossing state lines.
